(Paramount, 1953) Arguably the most apocalyptic of 1950s sci-fi films, George Pal's War of the Worlds transforms H.G. Wells' Victorian parable into a cold war attack on the U.S. Leading the charge are Martian War Machines spewing lethal heat rays. This Martian War Machine with detachable cobra-headed heat ray is cast in solid brass (weighs nearly a pound), measures 4 in. wide and was presented to studio executives at the time of the production.
