Antique American Oil Painting on Canvas. Gloversville,NY. Artist unknown. This is an extremely well painted Village Scene with no apparent signature. Executed ca.1865 The artist was extremely accomplished and exacting in detail. Note the incredibly small figures in the distance, the muscles on the horses, clothes hanging on picket fence and the depth perspective that the artist achieved along with the excellent treatment of the trees, leaves and foliage. There is a Polaroid Photograph which accompanies this painting that states the scene as "Gloversville NY, 19th century, John Freeman's Shop" The canvas has been laid on a wood panel and is housed in a 20th c. frame. overall: 27"h x 39"w x 2"d. ss: 20 1/2" x 32 3/4"
