Silver (unmarked) Russian cigarette case measuring 3 1/2" x 3". Interior of case presents engraved inscription "Given by Grand Duke Michael of Russia in 1895 to Roland Slator Morris by him in 1900 to Augusta Twiggs Shippen West by her in 1926 to Sarah Arndt Morris". Exterior presents overall woodgrain design with 4-leaf clover design on upper right front cover with leaves made of 4 cabachon blue stones (1-missing) and stem made from 6 diamond chips. Clasp release is covered with blue cabachon stone. Design exhibits wear from polishing. Grand Duke Michael Alexandrovich of Russia (1878-1918) was brother of Czar Nicholas II and was beleived executed on June 12, 1918 under order of Soviet authorities. Roland Slator Morris (1874-1945) American lawyer, educator and political activist, served as United States Ambassador to Japan from 1917-1920. The cigarette case was given to his wife (Augusta Twiggs Shippen West) who he married in 1903, and eventually was given by her th their daughter (Sarah Arnt Morris). Shipping: $20.00 plus insurance.
