A Jacques Griffe couture black crepe cocktail dress, circa 1960, label with thumb-print, no 518320, with X shaped seaming to the waist and bodice, black satin edging and tie belt, the rear hem falling in two swallow-tail drapes, bust 91-96cm, 36-38in Jacques Griffe as a young man worked with both Vionnet and Molyneux. Like Vionnet, he designed by draping fabric directly onto a mannequin. Indeed she presented him with a wooden mannequin for this purpose and generally supported him as a young, new designer when he launched his own fashion house. The woven thumb-print on the label is also inspired by Vionnet's early labels.
