Post-Revolutionary War to Civil War
British Attitudes Towards Americans Following The War 1791, "THE AMERICAN SPY, A New Edition," Fine or better. 6.75" x 4.5," 167 pages, printed in London "...for the author:" by S. Crowder. Clean and unstained throughout, although some of the pages in the front of the book are torn and a few are separated from the binding. This book is a compilation of letters from an un-named British writer, whose small casket of letters washed ashore off Portsmouth following the wreck of the ship upon which he sailed. This book does not refer to a spy in America, but to the "spying" into a man's private letters. Normally, such letters would be of little interest to outside observers, but the content of these was particularly relevant to the just-completed Revolutionary War and the British attitudes towards Americans following their loss in that war. Additional letters touch on a variety of subjects and philosophies, making for an interesting read, even today! Early American will accept payment by check or credit card.
