Pen and Ink Portrait of Napoleon Bonaparte, by S.W. Albee, Fine.
c. 1815, Original Handmade Pen and Ink Portrait surrounded by calligraphic embellishments, 11.5" x 14.75", Fine. Titled, "Engraved and Written With A Pen By S.W. Albee." A calligraphic angel on each side of the portrait blows a trumpet toward Napoleon. A verse is penned at the bottom: "How fair the touch that pen will give, Of lovely thoughts that written live, From which the eyes the knowledge bear, But leaves the fair impression these." Slight paper loss and staining at outer edges, most of which could be covered by framing. Scattered blemishes, including one on Napoleon's shoulder. An unusual piece.
