Famous Americans Portraits Schuyler and Roger Sherman

1800's, Lot of 5 Portrait Prints of Famous Americans, Including Eli Whitney, Philip Schuyler, Alexander McWhorter, and Declaration of Independence signer, Roger Sherman, Very Fine to Extremely Fine.
These prints are steel engravings produced during the 1800's, ranging in size from 7.5" x 4.5" to 10.75" x 8," with blank backs, removed from books or other publications. 1.ELI WHITNEY, large print dated 1867, published by Johnson, Fry & Company, from a painting by Chappel, excellent condition, with a small damp stain in the top margin and some light toning along the bottom margin. 2. ROGER SHERMAN, engraved by Oliver Pelton, after a painting by Earle, very nice condition, aside from small tears in the edges, could be trimmed and framed. 3. PHILIP SCHUYLER, unsigned print published by Mason Brothers of New York, excellent condition aside from binding remnants along the right edge. 4. ALEXANDER MCWHORTER, engraved by John Sartain, in excellent condition, with some age toning along the upper left edge. 5. Untitled and unsigned portrait of a middle aged man in civilian clothing facing left, choice condition. All of these prints would make great displays, trimmed and framed. (5 prints).

Philip John Schuyler (1733-1804) was a military officer in the French and Indian War and a General in the Revolutionary War. Roger Sherman (1721-1793) was a signer of the Declaration of Independence and one of the committee, along with Jefferson and Franklin which drafted it. Alexander McWhorter (or MacWhorter) (1734-1807) was a clergyman who was active in the Revolutionary War persuading loyalists to join the American cause. He was present at George Washington's crossing of the Delaware River. Eli Whitney (1765-1825) was an inventor and manufacturer, best known as the inventor of the cotton gin.
