"View of the Erie Canal" Historical Staffordshire Creamer

c. 1824, Historical Staffordshire "View of the Erie Canal" Creamer, Extremely Fine.
This historic creamer has deep blue images covering the entire outside surface, topped by extensive floral borders. The bottom has a printed banner: "View of the Erie Canal," and foliage. An impressed capital "F" and a printed blue "19" also appear on the base. The creamer is 5.75" high, and has a 5.25" wide chamber, with a base 3.9" wide. A similar creamer appears on p. 121 of "Historical Staffordshire," 2nd Edition (2000), by Jeffrey B. Snyder. According to Snyder, these creamers were produced by "Enoch, Wood & Sons," which created many sought-after items out of Burslem for export to the United States from 1818 to 1846. "The early wares for export were produced in the deep cobalt blue best loved in America. The company produced approximately 58 American views, over 80 English views and series of French views..." The two main images are views of the aqueduct bridge at Little Falls on one side and the entrance of the Erie Canal into the Hudson River at Albany, on the other. Shiny glazed surface enhances the scenes in luscious blue tones. Only one tiny discoloration appears on one side. Ex: EAHA Auction, Oct. 13, 2001, Lot 757, where it sold for $2,070.
