A rare and early 8.5 inch globe by in red trimmed meridian ring with iron top-pointer, 13 inch outside diameter horizon ring with various scales including months and various houses of the zodiac, mounted on the apparently original base, signed in an oval area: globe Terrestre, Dresse' d'apres les relations, les plus recentes, Char Fre Delamarche , Sucess. r de ROBERT DE VAUGONDY, 1835. Another oval reads A Paris Chez Cauteur, Ingen, Me'can, pour les Globes et Spheres Rue du Jardinet, No. 13, Quartier St. Andre des arcs. Overall measurements of 19 inches high by 13 inches.
Condition reportGood condition noting overall toning and discoloration, considerable darkening, a tight paper and gesso separation running 7 inches horizontally around the globe. The meridian ring has scattered minor chipping and 10% to 15% surface loss, discoloration continues with horizon ring and it has very minor edge chips but a 2 x 3 inch area of surface loss near on side slot, intact footed base in original condition. The unit lists a bit to the side.
