ARTIFACT PURPORTEDLY FROM MONTGOMERY'S DEATH, 1775, Framed shingle fragment from the home where General Richard Montgomery was laid out and died from wounds suffered at the Battle of Quebec December 31, 1775. Montgomery was an Irish-American soldier who served as a major general in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. The fragment bears various labels inscribed in ink with a dip pen. One reads: "This relic procured by ......(illegible.....1881" "Shingle from the house at Quebec in which Gen'l Rich'd? Montgomery was laid out in 1775...." , another reads "....Shingle from the house in which Montgomery was laid out when... he fell at Quebec..." and "From the house in which Gen'l Rich'd Montgomery died in at Quebec 1775". The shingle fragment measures approx 4 x 6.5 inches. The overall framed size is 25 x 19 inches overall. A 1798 wood engraving titled QUEBEC accompanies the piece in the same frame. The engraving appears to be laid down on a backing material.
