Beautiful, antique miniature painting after Heinrich Hofmann from the porcelain decorating studio of Ambrosius Lamm in Dresden circa 1934-1940. The back is hallmarked with Lamm's hallmark Lamb, Dresden, Made in Saxony, Jesus Knabe, Nach Hofmann. Ambrosius Lamm opened his porcelain decorating business in 1887 and as a perfectionist only used items from renown companies like the KPM, RPM-Meissen, Rosenthal, Hutschenreuther and the Silesian Porclain Factory. He mainly decorated the items in the well known 'Dresden', 'Meissen' and 'Kopenhagen' styles.Heinrich Hofmann was one of the pre-eminent painters of his time. The Sunday Strand â€" at that time a very popular British magazineâ€" describes him as the most influential contemporary German painter. Hofmann’s style of painting was unique in its own way but at the same time he based his work on the traditional art of old German, Dutch and Italian masters. In 1862, Hofmann and his wife moved to Dresden. More and more he devoted himself to the genre of religious paintings. This incredibly fine and detailed miniature portrait is perfect. Can be worn as a pendant. In excellent condition with no chips or cracks. Measures 1.50" x 1.25".Dresden Porcelain Studios by Jim and Susan Harran 2002 pgs 83-106Auction Records: Dallas Auction Gallery, May 9 2007 ... includes certificate that this lot came from the Estate of Louise Mondani Graham, owner of the Brass Bugle Antique Barn in Cornwall Bridge CT.
