Brass Large Damascene standing lamp. Damascus, Syria, circa 1900. Decorated with Hebrew and Arabic inscriptions, pyramids, Royal figures, animals, snakes, birds, floral and geometrical design , beautiful open work. Repeating Hebrew inscription on the base "Ben Parat Yosef" (protection from the bad eye). Grate patina. Top quality workmanship. Lamp is in working condition, no damages or repairs. Size: H.65 in., Base 19 in., Shade 24 in Damascene Brass Work has been performed for hundreds of years in Damascus, the city that give its name to the craft. What is surprising in Damascus is that the workers are all Jewish while the owners of the workshops and the merchants are gentiles.
