Revolutionary War Patriot "James Warren" JAMES WARREN, Revolutionary War Patriot, President of the Provincial Congress of Massachusetts & Continental Army Paymaster. Title Page Signed, "Jas. Warren" in brown ink along the the upper right corner of "An Universal History From the Earliest Account of Time," Vol. IV, c. 1747, London, single sheet, 8" x 5", Fine. The signature is boldly written in brown ink, 2" long with a flourish beneath, and toning along the margin of the page. Obviously from Warren's library, this title page is printed on fine-laid paper, with a circular woodcut of a tower on a hill--the rest of the publication is missing. James Warren (1726-1808), was the president of the Massachusetts Provincial Congress, a Major General in the Provincial Militia, a member of the Navy board for the Eastern Department, a member of the Governor's Council, 1792-94, and a presidential elector from Massachusetts, 1804. He was the one who proposed the "Committees of Correspondence" to Samuel Adams, which were of inestimable influence in inspiring the spirit of freedom among the Colonies.
