Historic Printed Textile Commemorating "Washington & America" Listed As Number 6 In "Threads of History"

c. 1783, Red Printed Cotton Textile with Legend, "America Presenting at the Altar of Liberty Medallions of Her Illustrious Sons," 36" x 30", English Manufacture on White Cloth, Fine.
This outstanding, original historic textile design is fully described and listed in "Threads of History: Americana Recorded on Cloth 1775 to the Present," as No. 6, the classic reference published by the Smithsonian and considered the "Bible" on this subject and field of collecting. Printed in red, the ornate design shows a Cherub which adorns General George Washington, who is wearing his military General's uniform, with a laurel wreath above. Two American Peace Ambassadors are shown in a medallion vignette behind him. This textile measures approximately 36" x 30" this ornately decorated print with numerous American Revolutionary War era patriotic motifs and it has been partially hand-stitched along two edges with some added fringe while the other edges have been left natural. It is printed in red, there is some expected minor fading, a few scattered small trivial holes, with a portion reinforced with material on the blank reverse. Overall, this period decorative textile is of museum quality and would display nicely properly framed. An important opportunity for collectors.
