Post-Revolutionary War to Civil War
War of 1812 Era Account Book 1810-1814, Manuscript Account Book, Choice Fine. 16" x 6.5", approximately 290 pages. Cardboard, leather covers with branded border designs and spine. Lightly toned and soiled pages with clean and ruled brown ink writing. A few pages have been cut out near the beginning of the ledger, the leather cover is worn. Harking back to the War of 1812 era, there are entries for various clients, with farmers and naval forces among the clientele. Entries begin in 1810 and run through mid-1814. Two pages at the front of the bound ledger are a table of contents with the header "Allen Miller account Book" followed by a list of his clients. Typical materials purchased include oxen, shoes for horses and oxen, nails, hooks, staples, sails and other items to repair or improve farming and sailing equipment. The cover is branded with the insignia "N+A Miller & Co"; an interesting historical record of the financial affairs of farming and privateering, during a very risky period on the seas. Unique. Early American will accept payment by check or credit card. ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
