Post-Revolutionary War to Civil War
September 1, 1818, Broadside, "BATTALION ORDERS," Fine.
18.75" x 14," signed at the bottom right, in type, by Joseph E. Smith, Major, Commanding Battalion of Artillery, 3rd Brigade, 1st Division M.M. "In order to conform the Evolutions of the ARTILLERY to those prescribed for the Infantry in the Brigade Order of the 10th ult. before transmitted, so far as the nature of the different corps will permit, the Major of the Battalion of Artillery deems it proper to prescribe the following Evolutions to be executed, with others, by the Artillery at the ensuing Review..." Following this heading are 31 different maneuvers, with specific instructions for each. Generally fresh, but with scattered toning on the top half, some wrinkling of the paper, and minor edge chipping. Scarce.
