Pre-Civil War Handwritten Slave Hire Document 1852, Manuscript Slave Hire Document, From the Pre-Civil War South, Very Fine. In this original, undated, handwritten, 4.75" x 7.75" document, M.P. Vincent has hired a slave for the estate of A.P. Vincent, deceased, from A. Christian. From the $60 balance due for the annual hire of the slave, Vincent has deducted $15 for 3 months board, and paid the remainder. Just a bit of routine paperwork for the slave owner, but likely not so for the unnamed slave involved. This document is in very presentable condition, with some creases and a little light toning. A reminder of the days of Slavery in America. Early American will accept payment by check or credit card. ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
