Prints
c. 1880 Print: "Albert Gallatin," by Bureau of Engraving & Printing, Washington, D.C., Very Fine.
Uncolored engraving, 2" x 3" image on 7.75" x 6" card. Crisply executed vignette bust of Gallatin, with foxing and staining to wide margins. Evidently part of a series of print proofs by the Bureau of Engraving & Printing, which featured portraits of presidents, politicians, and government officials. A Swiss-born politician, Gallatin served in the House of Representatives (1795-1801), helped establish the House Committee on Finance (now the Ways and Means Committee), served as U.S. Secretary of the Treasury (1801-14), and was one of the peace negotiators with Great Britain after the War of 1812.
