c. 1900, Engraving of James Rivington, Trial Proof by Francis S. King, Gem Mint.
This 13.5" x 18.25" engraving published by the Society of Iconophiles of New York has been signed by the the original engraver, Francis S. King, in the lower right hand corner. Part of a series, only 11 of each of the proofs were signed. The image depicts a portrait of James Rivington with an empty plate below his image ready for a title. Rivington published the New-York Gazetteer, a pro-British newspaper, and beneath his portrait are stacks of books as well as symbols for knowledge.
