Momento Mori Cabinet Card

c. 1880-1890, Postmortem Cabinet Card Portrait.
Sepia-toned, 4" by 6", on original gold imprinted cabinet card of "J.G. Higgins & Son, Photographers", Bath, Maine, Choice Extremely Fine. Made to memorialize the dead as part of the mourning process. Postmortem photos were often sent to relatives that could not make the long hard trip to the attend the funeral.
