Description:

Created in 1972, this original color lithograph is after an original work from 1939 of the same title.  From the unnumbered edition without text and printed on Arches vellum paper with wide margins.  Hand signed by Marc Chagall (1887 – 1985) in pencil in the lower right margin.  Printed by Charles Sorlier, Paris and published by Mourlot, Paris.

This beautifully lush and colorful work by Marc Chagall is a testament to his artistic and creative genius in implementing bold color within his works.  We see two primary shades of midnight blue contrasted with a deep red; combined, these colors appear almost purple as the composition works together in perfect harmony.  Originally used as a poster for the exhibition of Chagall’s works at the Museum of Budapest from October 14 – November 15, 1972, this is a rare proof without the poster text which has been hand signed by Marc Chagall in pencil.

Catalogue Raisonné & COA:
It is fully documented and referenced in the below catalogue raisonnés and texts (copies will be enclosed as added documentation with the invoices that will accompany the final sale of the work):

About the Framing:
This work is displayed in a beautiful Baroque frame with custom joined corners. The gold tones of the frame complement the tonal quality of the work, while the detailing of the molding repeats the circular forms seen within the piece itself. The framing is completed with white, linen-wrapped mats with a matching gold inner fillet and set behind and archival Plexiglas® cover.
