Description:Created in 1975, this cast bronze sculpture is hand-inscribed on the edge of the base by Henry Moore (1898 – 1986), ‘Moore 5/9’ (out of the total edition of 9).
Hugely innovative and widely known for his organic figural studies in cast bronze, Henry Moore has amazed us once again with this stunning Standing Mother & Child. Two heads emerge from a pool of flowing bronze, tinged with teal highlights and dark brown lowlights. The larger of the two, presumably the Mother, holds her child in her right arm with her left arm crossed before her for added support; this is echoed in the subtle bronze curve that cuts across the form in a horizontal, three-dimensional line. The entire sculpture has been mounted onto its base, featuring the hand-written inscription (underneath): ‘Standing M & C’ in blue ink.
