Description:
As part of a series of a study of geometric shapes, Picasso has personified a typical circle, associating it with a human face and features. Incredibly detailed and highly expressive, the face is encompasses by a small border of a decorative strokes or "hair" which enclose the visage within the circular shape. It has been created as a type of relief, recessed into the plane of the flat surface of the tile. This allows highlights and lowlights to cast shadows across the face, giving it a character and life in and of itself.
Created in 1971, this red, earthenware clay tile was made out of the edition of 500. Inscribed and stamped on the reverse, 'Poinçon Originale de Picasso' and 'Madoura Plein Feu.' Also numbered in black ink on the reverse, 'J. 170 | 153/500.'

About the Framing: This resplendent custom frame is the perfect elegant compliment to this remarkable work. Framing begins with linen wrapped wooden liners that securely hold the ceramic and allow visibility in the back (to view markings) . A contemporary and elegant varnished gold leaf frame encases the wood liners. The delicate coloration of the wood moulding perfectly compliments the gentle texture and color within the terracotta. A heavy weight picture wire is attached to the frame to ensure a secure hanging. Due to the size and weight of this piece, we recommend using a heavy duty double nail hook with 100-150 pound weight capacity (double the weight of the piece to determine hook capacity) .
