American Revolution
General Cornwallis Engraving & A British Account Of War

1777, 1783, 1786, Book and 2 Magazines of current events, including engraving of General Cornwallis, Very Fine to Extremely Fine.
1. Book, "The Annual Register: Or A View of the History, Politics, and Literature for the Year 1777," published in London 1778, 249 pages plus list of Contents, original leather spine with marbled board covers, 9" x 5.5," Extremely Fine. Covers and spine worn with a few small splits, with contents tightly bound, clean and intact. The first 10 chapters (188 pages) are titled "History of Europe" and are heavy with accounts of the Revolutionary War in America during 1776 and 1777 -- from the British point of view. These accounts include activity on Lake Champlain, Ticonderoga, Gen. Carlton, conditions in New York and Philadelphia, and more. The "State Papers" section includes a Proclamation by George Washington, the surrender of Gen. Burgoyne at Saratoga, the text of the American military oath of allegiance, and several proclamations from British "Peace Commissioners" in America (such as Gen. Howe) dated before and after July 4, 1776, but with no mention of the American Declaration of Independence. Another section titled "Antiquities," has a long discussion of an ancient Greek coin from Apamea in Phrygia, struck during the reign of Philip.
2. "The European Magazine and London Review," issue for January 1783, 9" x 5.5," containing 80 pages, and an engraved portrait plate of Capt. James Luttrell, Commander of the HMS "Mediator." Three other plates mentioned in the Contents page are missing. This magazine is partly disbound and lacks its covers, otherwise the contents, though lightly foxed here and there, are Very Fine.
3. "The European Magazine and London Review," issue for August 1786, 9" x 5.5," containing 144 pages (a few pages beyond 144 may be lacking), and 2 engravings, one of General Charles Cornwallis, who surrendered to George Washington at Yorktown. This magazine is disbound, missing its covers, with only a little light foxing, otherwise Very Fine. (3 items)
