War of 1812
"Naval Battle on Lake Erie" Reported

September 30, 1813, "Naval Battle on Lake Erie" in the "BOSTON GAZETTE," MA, Choice Fine.
Four pages, 19.25" x 13.25", an account of the Battle of Lake Erie from the BOSTON GAZETTE. Page 1 prints Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry's letters, of September 12th and 13th, to Secretary of the Navy William Jones, which give an account of the battle and discussing the prisoners, the wounded, and the condition of the ships. Another column states the force of both sides, as well as the names of all of the Americans killed or wounded. Also printed is Perry's famous letter to General William Henry Harrison: "Dear General, We have met the enemy; AND THEY ARE OURS." A light dampstain at top left and center and partial edge split, else very good. Superb custom presentation in a hard black buckram folder with a burgundy spine; the name of the paper, the date, and "Battle of Lake Erie", have been impressed into the cover in gold leaf lettering.
