Outstanding 1820 Campaign Pro-DeWitt Clinton Broadside April 14, 1820, Double page Broadside "Extra" promoting the New York Gubernatorial Campaign of DeWitt Clinton and John Tayler, Choice Very Fine. A huge Broadside which each page measures 21" x 15.5," 2 pages, trivial scattered toning spots, one or two tiny holes along a vertical fold. Published by the ALBANY REGISTER EXTRA as an unabashedly pro-DeWitt Clinton & John Tayler election piece. Clinton was running against DeWitt Clinton, a former friend and New York Governor. The fight was vitriolic, with charges and counterclaims made by each side. This was an early salvo in the "war of words" between the two camps, eventually leading to extra Broadside editions of both the Albany Register and the opposing Albany Argus just a few days later (look for these items nearby in this sale). A wonderful piece of historic and political import, ready for framing and display. Early American will accept payment by check or credit card. ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
