Political
Political Almanac With the Declaration of Independence & Constitution

1845, "The Whig Almanac," Printed by Greeley & McElrath, New York, Choice Very Fine or Better.
This 7.25" x 4.75" light blue wrapped almanac contains a variety of historically significant pieces of information beyond the standard calculations and calendar figures. On page 15, there is an article of what people could learn from the past and expect for the future. On page 18 are the voting results of previous presidential elections. The Almanac claims Polk won the 1844 election by fraud, giving as an example Polk's garnering of more white male votes in New Orleans than the total of eligible voters there. The Almanac also states, correctly, that the Whig Clay would have won had not Birney and his Liberty Party taken the votes of Northern Whigs unhappy with Clay's equivocations on the Texas Annexation issue. On page 19 is an introduction to the history of the Declaration of Independence and the beginning text of the Declaration. On page 21 is the text of the Constitution. An increasingly significant grouping of historical content.
