1894 Hand-Colored Political Cartoon On Free Trade

1894, Hand-Colored Political Cartoon, "An Unpromising Pair Of Racers," Drawn by J. Opper, Published by Keppler & Schwarzmann, Choice Extremely Fine.
This original, hand-colored, Political Cartoon (print size approximately 10.5" x 9.5," with matte 12.5" x 11") refers to the issue of Free Trade versus Special Interest Protectionism. Two race horses, one very fat, labeled "McKinley Bill," and the other lame, labeled "Wilson Bill," pass Uncle Sam on their way to begin a race. Uncle Sam observes "Neither one of these animals is good for anything; - they say there's a new horse being trained, called "Free Trade," that will beat 'em both!" This print is almost certainly from the New York magazine "Puck," a Democratic publication known for its colorful political cartoons, which was published by Keppler & Schwarzmann beginning in 1877. A printed signature of the artist, "J. Opper" appears on the lower right corner. This print is in excellent condition, with a very light crease across the upper part. A wonderful piece of American Political Cartooning.
