Gogarty (Oliver St. John, surgeon, man of letters and wit, friend of James Joyce, 1878-1957) 11 Autograph Letters and 1 Typed Letter signed to Cecil Harmsworth, 24pp. & 6 envelopes, 8vo, Ely Place, Dublin, 9th June 1927 - 9th June 1930, on a variety of subjects including: being invited to watch The Daily Mail being printed, sending "the photographs of Yeats Castle showing the interior (and 'period' furnishing!). I also send the short notices and photograph of Hugh Mac Diarmid the remarkable Scotsman whom AE appraises, which I proposed for your paper", inviting the Harmsworth's to lunch at the Oliver Goldsmith bi-centenary, "Regarding MacDiarmid - if you can persevere you will be amused by his "Crowdie knowe" in one of the books of lyrics. It is the poem about the resurgent Scotsman at The Day of Judgement. Poor "AE" [George William Russell] is shattered by his adventures in the witness box.
