Hargreaves (Alice Pleasance, née Liddell, prototype of Lewis Carroll's character, Alice in Wonderland, 1852-1934) Autograph Letter signed to "Professor Collingwood" and 3 Autograph Letters signed to Mrs Harmsworth, 7pp. & 1 envelope, 8vo, The Breaches, Westerham, Kent, 30th September - 24th November 1932, concerning her patronage of the Lewis Carroll Memorial Fund, "Could not the leaflet be worded in a more sympathetic tone... . I fear I don't wish my signature to appear in a begging letter; but how would it do to put my name at the top of the letter as Patron of the League? This I should gladly agree to. I am sorry to seem unsympathetic but I think you would understand..."; and a small quantity of others relating to the Lewis Carrol Memorial Fund including 2 copies of letters to Mrs Hargreaves signed E.H. and E.A.H. and several copies of subscription forms for "H.O.W.", Helpers of Wonderland League etc., folds, last letter creased.(qty)***In 1932, on the centenary of Lewis Carroll's birth, Alice Hargreaves was invited to New York, to receive an honorary degree at Columbia University..
