Fleming (Isabel) Dublin During the Reign of Terror: At the Cross Roads, typescript (2 copies), title and 9pp., folds, slightly browned, sm. 4to, [c. 1916]; and a letter describing the Easter Rising with Cecil Harmsworth's inscription: "Geraldine on the Rebellion, 1916", v.s., v.d.(3)***An eye witness account of the Easter Rising. "All day long the battle rages. The noise is terrible; revolver, rifle, and machine gun are doing their deadly work - more wounded lie outside - but can only be brought in under cover of darkness. The adjutant still lies unconscious on our dining-room floor, a Red Cross man keeps watch beside him. The doctor adivises me to take my mother to another room, we try the drawing-room, but a bullet has crashed through the window, the mirror over the mantelpiece is shattered, the floor strewn with grass - it is too unsafe - I bring my mother back. The poor Adjutant is dead, they carry him to the hall." . View Bloomsbury Auctions next auction.Similar lots up for auction |
