Plunkett (Sir Horace, agricultural reformer and politician, 1854-1932).- Anderson (R.A.) Autograph Letter signed to Cecil Harmsworth, 7pp. & envelope, 8vo, Kilteragh, co. Dublin, Whitsunday 1918, on the arrest of putative German sympathisers among the Irish Nationalists, "I am glad to tell you that Sir Horace is ever so much better. I have just been out with him for a stroll in the Garden. The arrest of the Sinn Fein leaders passed off without any excitement whatever. The job seems to have been done very neatly and quietly. I was told today that 3 priests, whose names were not mentioned with those that were arrested were among the prisoners at Holyhead. If so, I rather fancy our new... Committeeman, Father O'Flanagan [Michael O'Flanagan, Roman Catholic priest and politician, President of Sinn Fein (1876-1942)], was one of them. There are not many Irishmen who are greatly enamoured of British rule, but I don't believe there is one who, in his heart of hearts desires to change for that of Germany", folds; and 2 others, another A.L.s. from Anderson and an A.L.s. from Horace Plunkett, v.d.(5)View Bloomsbury Auctions next auction.Similar lots up for auction |
