Galton (Sir Francis, biostatistician, human geneticist and eugenicist, 1822-1911) Autograph Letter signed to "Miss Weld" Norham Gardens, Oxford, 1p., sm. 4to, 42 Rutland Gate, 26th February 1894, on verifying Cromwell's fingerprint, "I have seen the letters of the Protector at Sotheby's and written fully about it to Miss M.E. Smith [I meant to write Stanley not Smith], Dalhousie, Heathfield, Sussex, who had also addressed me, & who I gather is particularly interested in the sale. She will doubtless forward you my letter if you wish... Mr Madan kindly sent me a copy of the photo some weeks ago. In reply I expressed a strong wish that the seal shd be independently photographed, but heard nothing in reply", on reverse copy of a letter from Galton to Miss Stanley regarding the use of fingerprinting as a form of identification, especially in relation to Cromwell as Lord Protector, folds.ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
