Harmsworth (Desmond, 1903-1990) Archibald Clark Kerr, 1st Baron Inverchapel, a group of 5 portrait studies, bust- or half-length, a pen and ink drawing, with monochrome wash, 360 x 265mm., this signed with initial D, and dated 1932, loss to upper corners, affecting image, further surface wear; with three pencil drawings and a charcoal drawing, the latter 310 x 240mm., the others each c.440 x 305mm., two signed and dated, one inscribed Lord Inverchapel, Ambassador to USA, 1947(5)***Archibald Clark Kerr (1882-1951) was a long-serving British diplomat, being appointed Ambassador to China in the 1930s, then to Russia during WWII, followed by being sent to the United States in 1946, when he was created Baron Inverchapel. His death in the early 1950s was said to have been hastened by his deep distress and disillusionment following the defection of the spies Burgess and Maclean with whom he had worked and was associated..
