Waugh (Evelyn) PRB: An Essay on the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood 1847-1854,
first edition, [one of 50 copies], inscribed by the author to Harold Acton "Harold with love from Evelyn Nov.1926" on front free endpaper, free endpapers browned, original cloth-backed boards, uncut, boards with very light browning and a little rubbed at edges, 8vo, Alastair Graham, 1926.

***A fine association copy of the author's scarce first book. Waugh had met Acton at Oxford and had through him had been introduced to a new literary, social and sexual world. He admired and envied Acton's Old Etonian assurance and his glamorous and wealthy connections and threw himself headlong into a dissolute lifestyle. Acton and the flamboyant Brian Howard were the models for Anthony Blanche in Brideshead Revisited. Alastair Graham, who published this essay, was Waugh's lover at Oxford..
