Sebasti?o o Primeiro, manuscript, title and 269pp., 2 engraved portraits, title small tear repaired, some staining, browned throughout, contemporary patterned calf, gilt spine, red morocco label, sm. 4to, [early eighteenth century].***Sebastian I, King of Portugal, crusader against the kingdom of Morocco. In 1578 he invaded Morocco and fought and lost the battle of Alcáber Quibir. Sebastian was almost certainly killed in battle but his body was never found prompting speculation that he survived. Myths and legends grew up around his memory with distinctly Arthurian overtones, thought of as a sleeping king who would come back at a time of the nation's need..
