Madeira.- Sanatórios da Madeira... Março de 1906 Novembro de 1907, manuscript, title and 10pp., title and foxed, browned, sm. 4to, Lisbon, 3rd November 1907. ***In 1903 Karl Frederick, Prince of Hohenlohe approached the Portugese government to build a sanatorium for the treatment of tuberculosis in Madeira. The plan was to be executed through a company, the Madeira Acctien Geellschaft who were to receive wide concessions on the island, much to the discomfort of the British who had long enjoyed a near monopoly of trade in the region. In 1914 when it became clear that the plans for development also included hotels and that trade would become wholly under German control, the Portugese government cancelled the contracts. .
