***Based on Perrault's classic fairy tale the ballet La Belle au Bois Dormant premiered in the Mariinsky Theatre, St. Petersburg, on 15th January, 1890 with choreography by Marius Petipa. Diaghilev's Ballet Russes performed the work as The Sleeping Beauty during the 1921 season..
