Decorative title surround after Benois, 10 plates (4 after Benois mounted and colored, 4 printed in purple, 2 uncolored and mounted), decorations and occasional initials after Benois, numerous illustrations. Original light green/oatmeal cloth, blocked in black and two colors to a design by Benois, decorative endpapers. Condition: some general light toning to book block, title chipped at lower outer corner; slight discoloration to binding, light rubbing and small tears to extremities, front free endpaper detached. The famous Silver Age artist has supplemented historical illustrations of various execution and torture devices in Russia from the eleventh to the twentieth Centuries with elegant ornamentation.
