KACHENOVSKII, Mikhail Trofimovich (1775-1842). Izyasnenie k prozhektirovannomu planu stolichnago goroda Moskvy [Declaration for the Projected Plan of the Metropolitan City of Moscow]. Moscow: Avgust Semen, 1824. 101 pp., 8vo (221 x 135 mm). 1 hand-colored stipple-engraved portrait, 1 large folding engraved map of Moscow (605 x 600 mm). Near-contemporary brown morocco, covers with outer gilt roll-tooled border surrounding a large neo-gothic panel blocked in blind, the flat spine divided into six compartments by gilt fillets and a roll tool, lettered in the second compartment, the others with simple gilt repeat tooling, original orange glazed-paper wrappers bound in, g.e. Condition: map backed with paper at an early date, old creasing and small tears, one resulting in slight loss to lettering on map, repaired tears to pp. 67/68 and 81/82, small paper-fault hole to pp. 95/96; light scuffing to binding, spine somewhat faded. Provenance: B. N. Bochkarev (ink stamp on title page). Third edition. Kachenovskii was a prominent critic and historian. Although a Greek, he held the chair of Russian history at Moscow University.
