Condition: wrappers with light intermittent soiling; backstrip chipped with splits to head and foot. a child's life of lenin illustrated by the great russian painter. A student of Ilya Repin, Kustodiev was one of the most important portrait painters of the Silver Age. Remarkably he embraced the October Revolution and devoted the remainder of his life to glorifying the Bolshevik cause in his art. He drew posters, calendars, street decorations and other propaganda. He also did a number of children's books. In 1916 be became paraplegic, and despite the pain he continued to paint and illustrate. Few copies of this lively children's life of Lenin have survived.
