KUSTODIEV, Boris Mikhailovich (1878-1927) (illustrator) and Nadezhda A. PARLOVICH. Parovoz-gulyaka [The Train Idler]. Leningrad: Brokgauz-Efron, 1925. 12 pp., folio (270 x 195 mm). Illustrated by Kustodiev. Original two-color decorated wrappers designed by Kustodiev. Condition: wrappers slightly discolored. This poem for children was brilliantly illustrated by Kustodiev, with each page thoroughly designed. The funny and surreal poem depicts a train that went for a walk that included eating and drinking at a café. Kustodiev was a highly regarded artist who before the October Revolution became famous for painting portraits of his contemporaries. After the Revolution he became heavily involved in book illustration, including books for kids. He worked in lithography, ultimately becoming well known for his work in that field.
