[RAND, Ayn (1905-1985)]. Pola Negri. Moscow and Leningrad: Kino-izdatelstvo, 1925. 16 pp., 8vo (147 x 110 mm). Illustrated with publicity stills. Original pictorial wrappers. Condition: slight discoloration to wrappers, small split at fold. first book by the inventor of objectivism. One of 4000 copies. Born Alisa Zinovevna Rosenbaum in St. Petersburg, Rand wrote at least two monographs on the movies that were published before she left for the United States at age 21 to be a screenwriter. She did approve the publication of this short profile of Polish silent film star Pola Negri. She revised it after the editor said the writing was "uncolorful." She said Negri was "a gloomy, cutting, cruel woman." Although it was published anonymously, the Ayn Rand Archives identifies it as her work from a letter in which she discusses its publication. Rand went on to write the bestselling novels The Fountainhead (1943) and Atlas Shrugged (1957).ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
