[RAND, Ayn (1905-1985)]. Gollivud amerikanskii kino-gorod [Hollywood the American Movie City].
Moscow and Leningrad: Kinopechat, 1926. 48 pp. 8vo (165 x 130 mm). Preface by B. Filippov. Illustrated with publicity stills. Original decorated wrappers. Condition: wrappers worn with tape repairs at fold; some splitting at fold. The inventor of Objectivism was a great fan of the movies. She saw hundreds of them and deserted the USSR for the USA in hopes of writing for Hollywood. Before she left Russia, she wrote two booklets about the movies. Gollivud was published under her given name "A[lisa] Rosenbaum" but without her permission after she left Russia for America. She said she knew of the book, but never saw a copy. This monograph on the film industry discusses D. W. Griffith, Cecil B. DeMille, Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Douglas Fairbanks, Rudolph Valentino and other famous movie stars. She even talks about the child stars Jackie Coogan and Baby Peggy and the wonder dog Rin-Tin-Tin. Evidently the editor added some anti-capitalist propaganda wildly out of character with Rand's politico-economic philosphy.
