Photogravure portrait frontispiece of Czar Nicholas II, 22 colored plates, 11 initials printed in red and brown, decorations and illustrations in bown. Original light brown morocco, the upper cover with gilt and partially embossed design in gilt, the spine divided into five compartments with gilt fillets and roll tools, lettered in the second compartment, patterned endpapers. Condition: light soiling to title; neat restoration to joints, corners and extremities. Provenance: Gr. P. v. Benckendorff (armorial bookplate). deluxe copy in special binding designed for members of the russian nobility. A hagiography commemorating the three-hundredth anniversary of the rise of the Romanov dynasty when sixteen-year-old boyar Mikhail Feodorivich became tsar. This opulent production is full of full-page plates often in color reproducing portraits, rare prints, colored photographs and imperial artifacts including icons, crowns.and even a cradle that belonged to this early tsar.
