TUGENDKHOLD, Yakob Aleksandrovich (1872-1928). Iskusstvo v bytu [Art in Everyday Life]. Moscow: "Izvestii TslK SSSR I VstIK," 1925. Portfolio of 36 prints (350 x 535 mm). Original Constructivist decorated folder printed in red and black Condition: folder with occasional soiling; some restoration and repairs to verso of folds; one of 7000 copies but rarely found intact. A fascinating experiment in introducing the Constructivist style into all aspects of Soviet life. With graphics by Nadezhda Lamanova, Anton Lavinskii, Vera Mukhina, Nina Yakolevna Simonovich-Efimova, and others. Detailed plans are provided for banners, newspaper racks, photo vitrines, Pioneer tents and outfits, Soviet demonstrations emblems and stencils, stage costumes, theater chairs, theater curtains, theaters, Red Guard toy soldiers and dolls, toy factories, children's masks, carved figures and hats. The well-known poster artist Lavinskii (1893-1968) supplies both the exterior and interior of a village reading room as well as a portable propaganda platform (Numbers 8 and 12). Lamanova (1861-1941) was one of the most important Russian fashion designers of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and sometimes worked in collaboration with the important Soviet sculptor Mukhina (1889-1953). They provided dress, kaftan, men's blouse and ladies' gym outfit designs (Numbers 6, 19, 20, 21, 24, 26-29). Simonovich-Efimova (1877-1948) was both a Soviet painter and puppet-theater designer and designed some shadow puppets (Number 36). ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
