1928 PHILADELPHIA A'S SIGNED BASEBALL W/ COBB

A multi-player hand-signed baseball of mostly members of the 1928 Philadelphia Athletics, with some additional American League players as well - 23 signatures in all, with 15 members of the Athletics team. Key signatures include following HOFers: Ty Cobb, Jimmie Foxx, Eddie Collins (sweet spot), Lefty Grove, Al Simmons and Tris Speaker. Other Athletics players who have signed: Joe Bush, Bing Miller, Joe Hauser, Ed Rommell, Howard Ehmke, George Earnshaw, Jimmie Dykes and William 'Kid' Gleason, the former Black Sox manager, here as a coach for the A's team. Additional signatures from other A.L. players include Detroit Tigers Larry Woodall, Marty McManus, Earl Whitehill and E.R. Vangilder; two Yankee HOF pitchers on this ball as well, Herb Pennock and Stan Covaleski in his final season; Sam Gray, who played for the A's in '27 and was playing for the Browns in '28, also has signed. Finally, two members of the St. Louis Cardinal team have also signed (consignor's relative was a local St. Louisan ball player), including then manager Jim Wilson and 1928 MVP and HOFer Jim Bottomley. An unusual amalgam of baseball star signatures, all still very legible. Ball is about a '5' or '6', as it is not worn but Barnard's stamp (presumably) has been worn away. Please note: there is evidence of signature removal on some of the ball's panels. 1928 was both Cobb's and Speaker's final season of playing MLB. This was also Jimmie Foxx's first full season of playing, with only 13 homers hinting as to what was to come from 'The Beast'. (2008 PSA/DNA COA)
