Taken during spring training in 1937 in Daytona, Florida, this vintage wire photograph displays Baseball's "Two Little 'Big Men'", HOFer Mel Ott and Pepper Martin; the title refers to the fact that both men are somewhat diminutive for Major League baseball players, 5'9" and 5'8" respectively. Though Martin was a great player and a powderkeg for the Gas House Gang St. Louis Cardinals of the 1930s, Ott was an unqualified superstar, averaging 35 home runs and belting more than 100 RBIs for the New York Giants over each of the previous seven seasons. The B&W ACME photograph itself measures approximately 7"x9", and has some minor warping along the bottom, along with some damage and creasing to the corners; otherwise, the actual picture is clear as day with Ott and Martin sharing a brief moment of levity. Actual date is March 19th, 1937, as stated on the reverse - original caption is still intact. An excellent addition to your vintage photograph collection.
