Made in Solingen, Germany. Openwork steel guard with American Eagle over 'US' with engraved feathers and branches and 'E. PLURIBUS UNUM' above the eagle. Grip is gray sharkskin wrapped with copper dragoon twist wire flanked by a single strand on each side. Base of grip has small piece broken away exposing wood beneath. Leather washer between blade and guard is missing. The etched blade is dirty and rusty towards the point, but should respond well to treatment. The ricasso has a brass inset disk reading 'Proved' and the reverse has an arrow and 'Solingen'. The scabbard still has both throat screws. It is rusty with a deep brown patina, but is free of dents.
