Post-Revolutionary War to Civil War
1790 Broadside By President George Washington and John Adams

May 26, 1790, Broadside from the First U.S. Congress, Signed in Print by President George Washington and Vice-President John Adams, Choice Very Fine.
More than 200 years old, this fabulous 1790 Broadside announces one of the acts passed by the First United States Congress. This 12.5" x 7" document was printed by Francis Childs and John Swaine, probably in New York, then the national capital, and is signed in print by President George Washington, Vice-President John Adams, and Frederick Augustus Muhlenberg, Speaker of the House. A large crowned shield watermark appears in the center of the sheet. The subject of this broadside is "An Act to provide for Mitigating or Remitting the Forfeitures and Penalties, accruing under the Revenue Laws, in certain cases therein mentioned." Rare, not listed in Evans nor NUC. This broadside is in great condition, having some light age toning and a few creases. A valuable early American Congressional Document.
